Itā€™s conference season. The time between Christmas Break and Spring Break can be tortuously long for teachers and students. Snow days are cheered, three-day weekends dot the calendar, and state conferences for teachers help break up the monotony of one of the longest stretch of instructional days in the school-year calendar. So in the spirit [ā€¦]

Todayā€™s assignment was fun! I was able to apply the idea of using a limited color palette to a poster design and help advertise for the schoolā€™s Cybersecurity club! PSā€¦ you should join! I made the poster using Canva, which has been helpful this semester! When I downloaded the file, it was in a pdf format, so I learned some additional tips on converting files in Linux. For the few people that may be curious how this is done, I used a program called ImageMagick which has a fun command called convert. I ran into some issues but quickly resolvedā€¦

    Design Blitz

I went on a walk around downtown today to take photos for this. I’m going to be honest, I had a hard time finding anything that caught my eye. I had a hard time finding anything that I thought, “Wow, this is a good/bad example of that conc...

    Feeling Like A Kidd Again

    by
Right off the bat this article caught my attention because of how it immediately brings up a fascinating point that most people probably donā€™t think about. We often fail to recognize that everything around us is designed and has principles and thought put behind it. This doesnā€™t just mean posters

February 14, 2022. Nothing like a late evening photo of a cat to make your photo-a-day quota. This is Charlemagne with the giant polydactyl claw. Today was a grueling day as I wrote two long pieces back to back. The first was a pleasure but the second ...

    Snowshoeing Warwick Forest

    by
February 13, 2022. This is a view of Warwick forest on a bitterly cold day as we snowshoes along a temporary trail made by people celebrating the forest's 75th anniversary the day before. We weren't out that long, and went three kilometers or so, which...

    Heavenly Julia

    by
February 12, 2022. This is Julia on the dryer in the downstairs bathroom making sure everything is as it should be. Today I actually took a break, doing a little work but mostly playing No Man's Sky. Yes, I'm building a new base again. https://flic.kr/...

    Hidden Woodpecker

    by
February 11, 2022. There was a big old woodpecker up in those dead trees in the middle, but it was on the other side and would not emerge as I took this photo. It was taken in the woods just near the NRC building in Ottawa - I took my car in for servic...

ā€œCreate some sort of graphic. Design the overall graphic to convey some sort of feeling or theme, but then have text saying something completely contradictory to the theme or feeling. Sort of like one of those old anti-motivational posters, but with more design than a black box with a white frame.ā€ Contradiction Creation This is [ā€¦]

    Keep Moving Forward!

For DesignAssignments 1887, Motivational Poster, the task was to find an image and design a poster for that situation. I went at it backwards because my mantra for many moons has been to Keep the Forward Momentum Going, and that also (hopefully) will fit in with my long story and with our friend Bob and [ā€¦]

The assignment I am talking about is this one! I noticed that some people said they could not see my tags on my blog posts, and after some time, I could not resolve this issue, so this is how I will let you all know what assignments I have completed. One of the aspects of programming that I find enjoyable is all the different color combinations that terminal profiles have. I know to most people reading this, you will be like, ā€œwhat is he talking about?ā€ Hear me out tho; I see some people program on black and white screensā€¦

    Motivational Words From Bob Rossā€¦

    by
Bob Ross is not only a painter but a type of motivational speaker and inspiration. Throughout his videos, his demeanor and the words he says go much deeper than just the painting. The whole vibe that he has with his videos creates an opportunity to learn some words of wisdom. For this assignment, I used ā€¦ Continue reading Motivational Words From Bob Rossā€¦

    Creating a Charity Adā€¦

    by
This assignment caught my attention because I come from a family who works for a few non-profit organizations and thought that creating a charity ad would be fun. I decided to go with Walk To End Alzheimerā€™s because my Grandpa recently passed from Alzheimerā€™s. I enjoy working with this charity to bring awareness to the ā€¦ Continue reading Creating a Charity Adā€¦

    Thinking About Designā€¦

    by
Design is something that I find interesting. The word design is so broad because it applies to many different things ā€“ like interior design, web design, clothing design, organizational design. Essentially, design is a part of everyday life and influences the world around us. Speaking more directly about design in context to this course, I ā€¦ Continue reading Thinking About Designā€¦
