GIMP Tutorial – Coloring Vintage Photos!

    by
Vintage photos are pretty cool things to play with, and they are all in the public domain so you can use them! I got my photo from here – go here to see the before as well http://mementomori-stock.deviantart.com/art/Vintage-lady-and-flowers-004-348279962 So I said this was a tutorial but the only tools I used were the free select […]

    BumbleBear – DailyCreate

    by
Bumblebee as Teddy Bear… I cheated on this, of course. I started with a photo of an actual bumblebee and then converted it to a line drawing using ShockMyPic on the iPad. Then, also on the iPad I proceeded to further modify the image using SketchBook Mobile, another iPhone/iPad app. Now bumblebees are already pretty […]

    My Cute, Cuddly, Crayola Memoir

    by
When I was five, my grandfather bought me one of those Crayola crayon boxes with the built in sharpener on the back. One little girl in my class was jealous, and she plotted revenge and set me up! I had four aquamarines, lots of hot magentas; lemon yel...

    Headless #ds106er Kicks Butt

    by
A comment on my earlier blog today from Alan Levine inspired me to do this drawing. In part it’s also a response to Jim Groome’s tweet. I may be slow to get going but I plan to kick butt for #ds106. However, animated gifs will have to wait for another day. So what are my […]

    Headswapping Without Reading the Story

    by
You know how sometimes you don’t really read the whole story? You only get part of it. Like sometimes it is the last part. Well, that is what I got from the whole @IamTalkyTina headswap thing. I totally missed the part about the babies and dolls. I also missed the part about a #dailycreate and […]

Starting new classes with a quadblog

    by
Despite 2013 being an apocalyptic year for health issues (glaucoma, vertigo, car accident) for me, I’m learning how to enjoy classes with subpar health. And I’m grateful for the truly creative and fun people that I’m meeting along the way. I may be in overkill but this week I sort of started ( still have […]

    The Frainger Moocers #ds106

    by
Physical pain is something that I cannot bear and deliberately inflicting pain upon yourself (eg. tattooing, piercing, etc. ) is beyond my comprehension. So when I saw one of my best frainger’s tattooed arm, I was a bit shaken. I couldn’t understand why she would do this. Then I got the context. She had joined […]

    Daily Create tdc597

    by

Yesterday we celebrated my birthday in the great out doors area of Stige Ø in the northern part of Odense. We ended the party with big ice cream cones decorated with lollipops and small wind mills. And as I wrote to +Rochelle Lockridge last night, I would like to use these ice creams in a dailey create. Here it comes.

    “Frainge Days Indeed!”

    by
Last night after I got tattooed, I wrote my first post for #ds106 and was thrilled to find my first comment was from Alan Levine, who is really not our teacher ...no one heads the course...but there are some very present masterminds behind all of this ...

    Video+ – Daily Create

    by
An old, old bit of video… A quick mashup, overlaying a few modern comments on an old message. How would this video be made today. Done with MAGIX Movie Edit Pro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=523mUpeH09k

    Star Spangled… WHAT?!

    by
Star Spangled What?! video link Today’s DS106 Daily Create tdc597 was to “edit an existing video clip to include an unexpected object in the story.” Video is my “thing”.  Not so the case for many of the DS106ers.  And I didn’t realize until I read a couple of comments in the DS106 Google + community today […]

The Legend of White Buffalo Calf Woman – Black Elk

    by
The Legend of White Buffalo Calf Woman - Black Elk:

Stories are the thread that weaves us all together. It has sustained us all through very dark and lonely times. As culture and humanity evolves, so will our collective mindsets, toward a positive sustainable future. Our stories will carry us forward on the waves of technology. We can adapt while preserving our culture.

It sounds so idealistic and grand when I think about it in my mind. But I am confident in what I am feeling and the direction I am supposed to be going. I am supposed to contribute to fulfilling the teachings of stories that were passed through generations upon generations of our Indigenous families.

The story of White Buffalo Calf Woman resonates with the urgency and truth that I feel lately. Enjoy & may peace be upon you all =)

    Going Headless in #DS106

I just finished a class in Art & Inquiry with MOMA's Learning Education Team.  The class made me realize the importance of imagery and communication.  With that in mind, I enrolled in Digital Storytelling 106, as a catalyst to get my crea...

Kicking off headless – A simple engraving tutorial

    by
Hello headless! I am starting off the year with a tutorial on faking a wood engraving! Please try and contain your excitement. This is a very simple tutorial. Going Web Retro: Social Bookmarking and Yahoo Pipes for ds106 Resources

    by
cc licensed ( BY SA ) flickr photo shared by Alan Levine It’s such a burden to remain fashionable, especially in web technologies which rise and fade faster than the latest in sweater swim wear… In assembling future lessons for the Headless ds106 course, I’m on the section for storytelling, and find myself hand editing a list of web resources, the “Bag of Links” approach which has not changed much since 1994. The colors went all faded high chromatic, I heard the crooning of The Mamas and Poppas, and became nostalgic for the dreams of social bookmarking, crowd sourcing dynamic link sharing. I am so retro in that regard that I still use delicious. Go ahead an laugh, even with the Yahoo purchase and discarding, the frequent blinking of lights with the new owners, I still tag and bag my links there, a collection that goes back to 2006. Yes […]

Why I am Headless this fall

    by
Yesterday I posted about Design Thinking Action Lab on the last day of that particular course. I didn't get as much out of it as I had hoped. However, I have enormously high expectations of Headless DS106. Why? Because I've been mucking about on the si...

    A domain of one’s own

    by

Signing up for a blog at wordpress.com, blogger.com or tumblr.com is certainly the easiest way to get through DS106 Bootcamp but it’s not as satisfying as setting up your own domain and installing the software yourself. With the new free hosting service from University of Mary Washington (UMW), the DIY option is actually almost as […]
