    What Storytelling means to me..

    by
Storytelling is a broad term, but an important one at that. It encompasses many different forms and has existed as long as humans have. Storytelling requires people to spread their adventures, creations, and so forth. Personal perspective is part of what makes a story a story. Both the person telling the story and the audience ...

    What Storytelling Means To Me!

    by
Hello Everyone, It has been a long long week for me. I lost internet service at my house and Comcast kept not showing up for the scheduled appointments which means that I cannot do my work (enough venting!) Storytelling to me means to engage someones imagination and to deliver a tale that catches your listeners ...

    Daily Creates: Week 3/Fall 2012

    by
This week was really fun in the Daily Create realm. The assignments had some spunk to them and allowed me to access some good inner creativity. TDC 251: Make a video that teaches us something, anything. SO my brother (11) loves to help me with stuff that I am involved in, so when he heard ...

    A tough Week

    by
A little more in depth to the name of this class, we got to do more storytelling! But first we had to figure out what exactly is digital storytelling? This was probably the most interesting post I have done, I had a lot of fun and feel as if it was very creative. Next we explored a video of the shapes of stories, which you can find mine here. We added another daily create assignment, so we are up to 4 now… I’m starting to see a trend here. one of the more fun things to do this week was the 5 card draw thing. trying to tell a story in 5 … Continue reading

    What’s In A Name?

    by
So, what’s in a name?  I realized today that I never really shared the name behind my blog just assuming it was self-explanatory.  But I think it’s fun to learn toponymy (the study of names) because names are of great importance. Melinda. It is of Greek origin and can be a derivative of Melanie (dark ...

    Street art manifesto

    by
No. Just no. You really want me to pick out a single assignment from the repository to blog about? You ds106 professors are cruel and capricious gods (drill instructors?) but fine. FINE. I will comply, if only because you continue to dangle the proverbial carrot of my grade before me. Also because I signed up ...

    To sum it up..

    by
Week three was a lot of blog posts: First was a post about Storytelling, since writing that post I think I would add that digital storytelling may be left more to interpretation, looking at many of the inspire posts it seemed that the stories could mean a variety of things where oral and written stories and further explained. Then I had a post about the shape of Little Red Riding Hood, based on Kurt Vonnegut’s speech about the shape of stories. Vonnegut’s theory is a very interesting way to analyze stories, it shows the timeline and mood (which seems to be based on the main characters perception) of the introduction, body ...

A Report In The Week of Melinda

    by
Earlier this week I posted a Star Wars-y post parodying parodies.  I don’t think that my views have been altered very much in the course of the week.  I think the things that I have changed a little on is my view of storytelling being digital by adding that, by going digital, you solidify its ... If You Give Melinda A Cookie

    by
The full story by Laura Joffe Numeroff, illustrated by Felicia Bond. This is not just a story that I am familiar with but a story that I closely identify with. I guess I was at a crucial age where stories really took hold of my life because I am a cookie snob, get distracted easy ... Continue Reading

    Cool monomyth, bro

    by
Kurt Vonnegut’s quirky explanation of story-shapes immediately brought to mind one of my favorite posters: It’s a fantastic (if abbreviated) visual explanation of Joseph Campbell‘s idea of the Monomyth, or Hero’s Journey. This particular story-shape is by Ryan Dulavey of Action Philosophers!, among other awesomeness, and while it doesn’t mirror Vonnegut’s model exactly, I think ...

So DS106, Digital story telling, and just story telling in general; Check out my post about my thoughts on these subjects.  http://livegraced.com/2012/09/story/ Kurt Vonnegut’s “Shape of Stories” makes a lot of sense. It’s a pretty comical way to look at … Continue reading
