EDEM630: Making Some Key Decisions; Scenario Planning for the future of Whitman #SP4Ed

    by
Learning in 2025: Drawn to the scenario grid by Knowledgeworks, I lean heavily towards the ‘Oasis and Provider’ quadrant of the scenario because it is plausible and applies well to this study and the perceivable future of Whitman. The providers are a core group defined by their technological advancement, global connectedness and entrepreneurial creativity. Even […]

    Typo Times headline story: tdc575

    by

In following the instructions of Daily Create 575 (Design a DS106 Tabloid Front Page) I forgot that it was supposed to be based on the earlier sensational opening paragraph writing daily create of tdc554. But, you just can’t go wrong with a Talky Tina theme! Turns out there were at …

    Using Piktochart

    by
I have mixed feelings about Piktochart. I like that it was easy to sign up with a Google account. As a free user there are not a lot of themed pages for you to access (just seven) and you have to move to a pro account to get access to more. I chose the...

    Come Back Comrade Tom

    by
The August 2013 GIF Challenge #5: Re-invoke a Missing DS106 Friend Tom Woodward is not really my friend, but he is someone I’ve followed and admired for a few years. His DS106 rate of production has been dropping off a bit so I though of this. Tom’s work first came to my notice, as far ...

ds106: Will Work for Feed Syndication Framework

    by

Note: I spent a bit of time this morning editing and cleaning up this post because upon re-reading it—which as usual was well after I published it—I thought there were a few things I could clean-up and clarify. That said, I haven’t changed any of the ideas …

    wwnorm m.i.a.

    by

Norm Wright (aka wwnorm, aka nostorynorm) was once very active, especially in creating Daily Creates. He may be off on a secret mission. I suspect he is seeking asylum.

    Where is Norm?

I made this image using GIMP from images from two sources. Norm’s portrait was his own (http://flic.kr/p/em1gxa

Running with the Headless #ds106 Bulls

    by
Once again in the YouDontSeeThisInAMOOC category, long time open participant Melanie Barker gives is a fantastic promo GIF for the Headless ds106 that starts August 26: DS106 makes sense.  Running with bulls does not.  But running with bulls is exactly what’s going to be happening near Richmond August 24th.  Fools. If you visit Melanie’s blog, you will find (I am guessing) a ds106 Icon Story inspired header graphic. So why are educators who stereotypically in a Turkle fashion would be off on the beach reading Milton or Sarte, deeply reflecting on their existence– instead using their summer days making animated GIFs for a course they are not enrolled in nor will get any credit? If you need me to explain, I won’t, except to say– get ready for the bulls. You can with the lowest of risks, join a recasting of the syllabi of previous UMW ds106 courses starting August […]

    You Don’t Get ds106 in a Box

    by
Just to be clear… My title is misleading- there are elements of the ds106 site we are going to be making available soon in a format for you to open, paint, fill, decorate, install on your own site. I worry more about the “in a box mindset” cc licensed ( BY NC ) flickr photo shared by Travis Nep Smith I understand why people are expressing an interest for something like “ds106 in a box” @cogdog @jasongreen @holden Once @cogdog finishes those WP Themes, I hear it's all push-button. Solution in a box. — The Russian Apts. (@rusapt) August 1, 2013 After all it is definitely the best thing since ___________. Cult status notwithstanding. But for reasons which hopefully gush out below, I’d really like to eradicate that “in a box” expression- it’s the kind of mindset in the early web years that got us AOL instead of the open […]

    Creating the Conditions for Potential

    by
Alan Levine (@cogdog) put out a great post today, “You Don’t Get DS106 In a Box”, and a couple words just jumped right out at me. When you dream of “ds106 in a box”, what you will get is actually just an empty box, a potential. – Alan Levine You really should read Alan’s post […]

    Pipe Dreams of Jim Groom

    by

Rene Magritte, in his painting The Treachery of Images, gives us lessons in what is the meaning of the artwork we create. Just as the painting of a pipe is not the pipe itself, and the canvas and paint aren’t the pipe itself, and the statement about the pipe is …

Well, that sure is a silly infomercial thing, John. It looks like she is eating Q-tips or something. But it is a good GIF of a silly thing infomercial. Can you actually buy that thing? If you actually wanted it? Well, bye!
