    Week 4… BUSY LISTENING.

    by
This week was astronomically busy. I quit my old job at Food Lion and started a new one at Target Mobile. I just got off of work an hour ago… After a 10 hour shift. Goodness gracious am I tired. I’ll start by embedding my daily creates. Can Graffiti Be Beautiful?: The answer to that is YES. My friend Brigid is an aspiring model and I have always used her as my perm-model for photoshoots. I think she is absolutely beautiful and when I saw this little piece of graffiti on this bench I was thrilled. I knew it was going to be a great photo opportunity. The Number 3: … Continue reading

    Look before walking… Sound Story.

    by
Now I don’t know how much description we are supposed to give with our sound story. I kind of want people to figure out what is going on to see if I’ve made everything clear enough. I’m not going to give you anything but a title… “Distracted Walking”

    Put the bumpers up!

    by
For my DS106 Radio bumper I had to do something hockey related. I couldn’t not do something hockey related. I’m just so sad there is not going to be a hockey season *sobs*. I chose to use freesound.org to find clips to use, I surprisingly d...

    Dodgeball Angel

    by
Shawn Michael Patrick O’Brien, When I heard about Coach’s passing, I was skeptical. There had been rumors floating around my former Middle School and High School that had turned out to be false. Unless he was tweeting from the grave, which if that was possible; he would be the one to do it. Coach O’Brien was the one teacher I will never forget. He taught his students so many life lessons that we will carry with us for the entirety of our time on this planet. He was yanked away from us way too soon. His passing never really hit me until I read the obituary posted on our local … Continue reading

    Radio Bumper

    by
So this bumper was pretty easy to create. I mashed up myself saying “ds106 radio”, “Clubbed to Death” by Rob Dougan, and some crazy radio static, just not exactly in that order. The beauty of audacity is that you can layer these...

A Bumper You Can Bump To

    by
So, a few hours ago, I didn’t know how OR what I wanted to do for my DS106 Bumper. And since I didn’t know what a bumper was at first, you may not know either. A bumper is the short audio clip that plays on radio stations to remind you what station you’re listening to, who is on the air, or even what kind of music is played. To put it simply, if you own a radio, you’ve heard one before. I was a little scared for this assignment; 1. Because I didn’t know how long it would take and I’m running short on time 2. I didn’t know how … Continue reading

    It’s all about tone

    by
I wound up listening to two radio programs for this assignment: Radiolab’s “Patient Zero” and a This American Life segment called “The Ghost of Bobby Dunbar.” Both were excellent, and though I’m going to focus more on the Radiolab show (simply because it’s the one I took more copious notes on) I found it interesting ...

    Radio Bumper

    by
I had never heard of the term radio bumper prior to this course which I have to say was a very interesting task of me even deciding what to do. I had a great time listening to others creativity I came across someone’s bumper from earlier this year that used chucky’s evil laugh as the intro to her ...

    Weekly Summary:Week 4

    by
Week 4 was a interesting week beign since I have never worked with audio editing before. I had no idea of the amount of work that goes into making even the simpliest sound bit.  This week we received information on our group project, and I did not reply to the request of group members because ...

    Week Four- Audio

    by
This week was all about listening to and creating audio projects. I wrote a reflection about Audio Storytelling, tip from the experts. As well as a review of the audio story “Eat Cake”. Then I did 3 daily creates: The theme 3: The seriousness of mini golf: An unlikely merger: …followed by listening to #ds106radio #ds106 — Amelia Lord (@amlordd) September 23, 2012 …and writing a reflection,   and lastly two audio assignments: Making a bumper for DS106radio- and creating a sound effect story-   Woo, a nose dive into audio this week. Audio is a little intimidating, just because I think hearing yourself speak sounds weird, do I really sound ...

    Audio Assignments for Week 4

    by
The first audio assignment I did this week was creating a sound effect story:  It is a bit of a horror story. I downloaded my sounds from freesounds.org and mp3skull.com and then imported them to Audacity where I layered them as well as put in some effects like fading in. Can you guess what happens?   Then I made a bumper for DS106Radio: It’s a little shorter then specified, but I think it sounds good.

    FIRE FX

    by
This week we were challenged to make a short audio story using only sound effects. I wish I had more time to do this assignment.(yeah we had a week, but I’ve been super busy) I had fun listening to all the free audio/sound effects I could find. ...

    DS106Radio experiance

    by
I listened to DS106radio for the first time today. When I logged Alan was talking to someone about a neighborhood that they were comparing to Bangkok, it was obviously mid conversation so I was trying to put the pieces together missing the first half of the story. Then I tweeted : listening to #ds106radio #ds106 — Amelia Lord (@amlordd) September 23, 2012 and Alan gave me a shout out… Thanks for the shoutout @cogdog — Amelia Lord (@amlordd) September 23, 2012 …and filled me in on who he was speaking to, Scott Low who is teaching in Saudi Arabia (which is probably why his sound was braking up throughout the ...

    Technical Difficulties

    by
This week we explored the world of audio, so far we have played around with images and words but this is our first exposure to audio. A lot of listening happened this week which for me was kind of a pain in multiple ways because first, I like to listen to music when I do homework. it drowns everything out so I can focus on the task at hand. When you must listen to thing s for your homework though you can’t really listen to music too… makes for some very messy jumbling and stuff. This week was not a good work for technology and me. I tried early in the week … Continue reading

    Audire Exempla

    by
(To Hear Examples) When I listened to Words on Radiolab I was fascinated, as I always have been, by the way that language can alter a way of life.  I was not impressed, however, with the way that the story was originally presented.  The layering upon layering of words echoing atop another was confusing and ...

    Picture-less Paintings.

    by
This week we looked at two videos about radio storytelling. The first video we had was that of Ira Glass on Storytelling, which is split into 4 parts on YouTube. He gives a lot of very good points about how to tell a story on the radio. I liked that he talked about the “building blocks” of radio storytelling. The first was the “anecdote” which is in the most simplest of terms is using a sequence of events to tell a story, this happened, then I did this, and I thought that, just a simple act of saying what happens and then whats next. Now this is powerful because it has a flow, … Continue reading

“Thou shalt count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.” Today we honor the number 3, a shape with 3 sides is the strongest, a 3 legged table can not be wobbly. 3 is seen everywhere and here we honor the number 3. I couldn’t find anything with the number three laying around… or something that I had 3 of so I decided to change the time of my PC clock to 3:33 and … Continue reading
