    Ten Seconds of Thanks!

    by
For this second writing assignment we were suppose to time ourselves for 10 seconds and in those 10 seconds come up with a list of things we are thankful for. For “bonus points” we were told to draw a picture of ourselves in 10 seconds as well. Here is what I came up with: This list is short mostly because I only had 10 seconds, but, it is also short because this is what is most important in my life. After I wrote the list I wondered why I put family and parents separate, and even though these two things are the same, I still can’t decide. I am also not surprised that I put soccer because I am very thankful for soccer and all the opportunities it has brought me these past 18 years (yes I have been on an organized soccer team since I was 3)! I am also thankful for animals, particularly my pets. Although they can be a pain sometimes, they have brought so much joy to my family. Without pets a home would feel so empty- even if there are kids running around. They bring a sense of protection as well to the home. Before I started the timer, I prepared myself by grabbing a piece of paper and pen, unfortunately the color was green. But then I proceeded to start the timer and began to write down things I was thankful for. After than I started the timer again and drew this picture of me. I maaay have overdone it on time by 3 seconds but I had to get the eyebrows juuust right. Overall I enjoyed this assignment and reminded me what I am thankful for!

    Assignment Bank #4

    by
https://web.archive.org/web/20160329210717/http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/im-a-real-boy/ This last assignment bank took the most creativity. I haven’t written my own personal short story since probably elementary school. The only thing I’m used to is essays. I wanted to challenge myself and see how well I can tell a short story. Overall it was generally easy. I didn’t make an outline or anything, I just let the story flow out of me. I used this as a chance to connect this to our theme. The assignment basically states to imagine yourself as someone else and write about it, and I didn’t specifically state that this was an alter life, it was implied. Tying this into our theme made this assignment a whole lot easier. It gave me a specific topic to write about. Being creative with it was a lot more fun that I originally thought. I thought this assignment would be a hassle, but it was honestly one of my favorite assignment banks from the past couple of weeks. It took the most time, but it was the most rewarding. Pushing myself was definitely worth it.

    Assignment Bank #3

https://web.archive.org/web/20150915090743/http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/that-bucket-list-though/ I was very interested in this assignment. All the time do I say that something is on my bucket list, but never write it down. I thought this assignment would be easier than it was. I thought as soon as I was thinking of things I wanted to put on my bucket list, ideas would shoot out onto the page, but nothing came to me. I had to go to Pinterest for inspiration, and after about fifteen minutes I had my five things complete. Writing about why I wanted to do them were really simple, as I listed things I genuinely wanted to do. I wrote all of the things I wanted to do onto a sheet of paper and then went to my blog to make a post explaining everything. I plan to keep this as a part of a new bucket list that I will remember forever. I will add to it and eventually have a complete list that I will carry out through my life. I made a bucket list years ago that I thought I had stashed in my closet, but it wasn’t there. I either did everything on the list, or eventually thought it was time to part with it because I wasn’t interested in the events on it. I’m super excited to have started a new one. I hope to actually carry out the actions on it this time.

https://web.archive.org/web/20160531093451/http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/haiku-about-you/ For this assignment, I had to write a haiku about myself. It could’ve been about a hobby or something I’m passionate about. I opted to write about my growth. Over the last few years I have seen myself grow an immense amount. Before college, I went through some things people never have to go through. These leave scars that never heal. However, through the power of myself and those that love me, I have been able to grow and become so proud of myself. I know that if I can get through those obstacles, I can get through anything. I know my future is bright. I know there is always a way to be happy. A quote I live by is, “sometimes things fall apart so better things can come together.” This quote is very true to me. Personal growth is one of the most amazing things. I love to think back on my struggles and know how far I’ve come. If I have grown this much in the last couple of years, nothing can stop me for the years to come. I am stronger. I love how a simple haiku can tell such a big story. It was quite easy to write, as everything I wanted to say fit the syllables and I just wrote it onto paper and composed it into a tweet. I rediscovered haiku’s in last weeks assignment banks, and I throughly enjoy them. They can be interpreted so much by the audience. There really is no right meaning behind a haiku. This is reflective of life.

Kayaking on the Rings of Saturn

    by
For my third assignment this week, I chose to do a Design Assignment. The design assignment task was to photoshop myself into a different environment. I had several ideas in mind but when this one came to mind I had to do it! I had a lot of fun with this assignment! I originally thought of photo shopping myself snorkeling in the snow but it didn’t turn out as great. So, I played around and came up with many different pictures but by far this one was my favorite. This is a photo of me kayaking at the summer camp I attended this summer, in which a few classmates and I served as camp counselors to children at risk. In the original kayaking photo I had one of the children sitting in front of me, but I decided to photo shop him out for privacy reasons. Again, I had a lot of fun with this assignment and spent about thirty minutes playing around with different photos. I’m not sure how I got the idea of using Saturn but once I thought of the idea, I googled a picture of Saturn and saved it to my phone. I then went to my PhotoshopMix (a version of Adobe photoshop), inserted the picture of Saturn and began searching for a picture to crop on the Saturn’s rings. I originally had a photo of me sitting on the rings but once I photo shopped the kayak in there, I liked it a lot more. I used the lasso tool to crop out any unwanted space in my kayaking picture, then placed it how I liked onto Saturn’s rings. The way I placed the picture was to make it look like I was kayaking on Saturn’s rings.

    Drawing with Google!

    by
For this web assignment, we were asked to create art using QuickDraw on Google. The objective is to help teach Google by adding your drawings to the world’s largest doodling data set. The way it works is a word will appear, let’s say “axe”, and when you are ready you click “Got It” and the timer will count down starting at 20 (seconds). While you are trying your best to draw a tiger, Google will be taking guesses until either it gets it or time is up. Like this: Pretty cool! I was able to create this video by using video recording on my iOS device. If you have a iOS device then you just swipe up from the bottom of your screen and click the recording button on the bottom right. Once I clicked to start recording then I went to the already open site QuickDraw on google and started the game. Once I finished the first round I swiped back up and ended the recording. I then sent the recording to my computer, uploaded it to YouTube and embedded it in this post! I found both this assignment and recording portion fun! I found the recording pretty easy and I also learned something new! As for the google drawing, I actually spent about 10 minutes playing several rounds of this game. I am not the best at drawing but it was still fun and I feel as if I helped google learn! Here are my results from the first game I did: Let me know if you try it out! You can comment your results under this post or even reply to this Twitter post!

    Assignment Bank- Mashup

    by
Here is another Assignment Bank creation I have made. I chose this one from the “Mashup” genre. While it had 4 stars, it was surprisingly easy. The assignment was just to make a collage of a person copying an emoji. The process of creating this was very simple: I just downloaded a collage app from the App Store and posted it on my Instagram account for this class. Emojis are very popular in our society’s form of communication. Some people use them to replace words, enforce a loving message, react to a story, etc. There are hundreds of emoji options, all made by different media outlets or software developers. There is an emoji for almost every situation you can think of. I chose this specific emoji because of its connection to our class’ theme: secret agent. In both the picture and the design of the emoji, the face of the person is covered. This is similar with secret agents since their identities are hidden from the public and, hopefully, their enemy. I like it because it is not overwhelming obvious that it connects to the theme, but once explained it makes sense. I am also not very experienced with technology so this was a simple way to connect it to the class. #MashupAssignments #MashupAssignments1506

    Assignment Bank Assignment #2

2.) Visual Assignment – My Favorite Photo https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs8XiGqAwpw/ When I traveled to Morocco last summer of 2018, I took several memorizing pictures but this one easily stood out. This picture was taken at the Paradise Plage resort in Agadir, Morocco. This is my favorite photo not just because of the captivating atmosphere or how nice…
