    A Sunset

I decided to do my DS 106 assignment on the Visual assignment. I picked A Sunset. The reason I decided to do this one is because while in Panama for Spring Break I took a beautiful picture of the sunset. I was having a great time on the beach and the sunset caught my eye, so I decided to take a picture of it and the picture came out great.

    Visual Learners

    by
To be honest when this project was first presented to us I was a little unsure about whether we should participate or not. Up until now I was unaware of the content on the website as well as the diversity of the assignments. Diversity defined as a range of different things. I would really enjoy a course of this nature because it gives the student freedom to elaborate on subjects of their interest. The course is so diverse that it was difficult to settle on just one assignment for the next blog post.

If I had to choose on one assignment topic it would be either design or visual assignments. During grade school I discover that I was a visual learner. And throughout my academic career I have utilized the established techniques and recommendations I have stumbled upon. Visual learners account for around thirty-five percent of the population; they prefer charts, graphs, data, and photographs. Tailoring visual presentations and/or media will assist them in becoming active learners. And this course in my opinion caters to visual learners as well as others which is difficult to find in college settings.

While looking through the ds106 website I found multiple assignments that I would love to participate in. Although settling on just one assignment was a bit more difficult that I had anticipated. Being a visual learner scientific projects catch my attention such as behavior habits. Therefore creating a "what people think I do " was something that I found very interesting. And I would have never imagined that students would enjoy academically assignments so mouth that they would share them on social networks such as Facebook.

Via these sorts of assignments we have the ability to tie our passions into subjects such as English composition. To judge beforehand without possessing adequate evidence is prejudgment is something that the “What People Think I do” activity focuses on. Subjects such as prejudgment, stereotypes, and prejudice are things that I am able to elaborate on because these are discussed in scientific behavior.

    DS 106

I think this DS 106 project is going to be a very exciting project. I think I will do really well with this project. I think it’s really cool that we get to choose our own assignments. Every student has a different style of learning, so I think this project will work for everyone in some kind of way.

I have been looking through the DS 106 page and I have seen a lot of interesting assignments that I would like to do. I can’t wait to do The Way it should’ve been. This assignment you get to choose a book or movie and you get the change the way it ends. I can’t wait to write my blog on this assignment because it’s a couple of movies I want to change the ending to.

This is a great website. All the assignments on here are really cool. There are some assignments to pick from it’s going to be hard to just pick one. The only part I’m skeptical about is that thousands of people are going to reading my blogs and I’m afraid that they might not like my blogs. Hopefully the people that read my blogs will like them and leave me positive feedback.

I’m really excited about this project and I hope everyone in class is also. I know this is going to be a great project to work and a fun way to finish the semester out. If we get a class like at JSU, I would definitely enroll in it because I know it would be a very fun class.

    Audio Video or Mash-ups

    by
I think that the DS106 website really gives you a way to learn in your own manner. At the same time you are learning digital storytelling like it implies. I personally think I will stay in three categories and they are the video, audio, or the mash ups. I may venture out to the visual or the web but I'm not so sure on those.
The video category would let me implement some of the talents I have already in computers. I know how to make some videos and I know how to do some editing. I just think having ideas from other people will really help me work on them. It also gets me over part of the brainstorming process. I can “get my hands dirty” quicker so to speak.
With the audio category I have wanted to try out some of the audio programs I have on my computer. That allows me to do it while doing my assignment. It allows me to work out kinks I may have and it wouldn’t be cutting into my school time it would actually be my school work. I can also just do some of the assignments to sharpen the skills and improve.
The mash ups category would be a fun category to play around in. Buffalax!Assignment looks fun it wants you to take a video that’s not in English and caption it into the English language. It’s a way to hone in more than one of your skills not just your video or your audio. I think this way I personally think that mash ups is a great category just to have fun with.
The DS106 website will take learning to a new level allowing students to learn and work on their skills that they are already good at. I personally would love for this class to be offered at JSU so that we could have been doing this the entire semester.

Celebrity Look A Like Blog Post

I’m doing a blog post on the celebrity look alike visual look alike assignment. That was titled  “We Found Your Match” the objective of the assignment was to use a picture of a close friend and put it up next to a celebrity’s photo to see the likeness. I used a picture of one of my best high school friends Dustin I did get his permission to use the photo beforehand and then I used a photo of Zac Efron I found by googling free images. I used this comparison of My good buddy Dustin to Zac Efron because all throughout high school I gave him the nickname of Zac Efron. We gave it to him due to the perfect looks, popularity and uncanny similarities. We specifically say he is just like Zac Efron’s character he plays in the high school musical films.  This is my opinion and I gave you all two examples and gave the link to the project on DS 106 let me know what you think.

    Book Club?

    by

“If daily reading begins in infancy, by the time the child is 5 years old, he or she has been fed roughly 900 hours of  brain food! Reduce that experience to just 30 minutes a week, and the child’s hungry mind loses 770 hours of nursery rhymes, fairy tales and stories. A kindergarten student who has not been read to could enter school with less than 60 hours of literacy nutrition. No teacher, no matter how talented, can make up for those lost hours of mental nourishment.”(USDOE, 1999)

Have you ever heard the phrase “if you don’t use it you’ll loose it”? So if you do not use your skills, like reading. You may not loose your ability to read, but may struggle with higher literacy. Think about the brain food quote. If this is proven true think of all the educational hours we have lost. In CliffNotes I brought up the statistic that 25% of Americans will not read a single book in a year. After some thought on the matter I have decided I would personally like to change this.

As of today I am setting myself a personal goal to read as many books as I can by the end of the year. (20+) However, I do not only want to read the books, but I also want to find ways to interact with them. For example in high school I had found a few authors my friends and I really liked and we would take turns reading the books. One book I remember reading is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. While reading we would jot down our thoughts as side notes, and then pass the book on to a friend to read and add their thoughts. Finally after the book made it around the circle I would go back and reread the book. This was such a great experience, because every time reading was like reading a whole different book.

With all the hype over The Hunger Games movie what better book to start with then The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. What a great opportunity to read the book then watch the movie and be able to compare the two. My second book I would like to read is The Rum Diaries by Hunter S. Thompson. I have seen the movie and can not wait to read the book. Hunter S. Thomson is my journalist/writer hero and I would like to eventually read all of his works including: Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, and Where the Buffalo Roam. I would also like to read The Perks of Being a Wallflower again to see how my thoughts have changed over the years. Those are only a few and I have a lot of catching up to do on my reading. So if anyone has any ideas for books I MUST read please let me know.

    Kony 2012
I know a lot of you have seen the Kony 2012 video but it seems to most of us it was just a video and now some of us don’t think about it anymore. I’ve actually been thinking more and more about it. I’ve read about it being a scam on some sites and then it seems legit on others. I personally think if it’s legit its worth investing in.
The Kony 2012 issue is a big issue that impacts a lot of lives here on this planet we call Earth. I know some people don’t like it or just forget about it because it’s not here in the U.S. happening. I personally think that everyone that hasn’t seen the video should watch it and participate with it. I think this guy should go down for the crimes he is committing. I say we should all band together and take him down.
I personally don’t think it’s a scam but there are certain websites that say it maybe. One of the websites is 9gag. The website has a lot to say about the movement in a negative manner. It does make me wonder about everything that’s going on with the movement. I still think the movement is a legit thing to be a part of.
If I had the money I would personally invest in at least the kit. I think it’s all for a good cause. If you have not checked out the Kony 2012 movement then please do. I feel that it is a very powerful movement and it could make a very big impact on the future. Check out the website for it here at Kony 2012.
