    Oorah! Bootcamp Week 2

    by
I have officially survived DS106 Bootcamp Week 2!! Alleluia! Wow, what an experience. This week’s work took more time and effort. I already had a leg up on the first couple tasks i.e. I had already customized my blog, changed up my menus, set up the “cool” version of permalinks and installed my plugins. The next task was to change your theme. I chose not to, because I had already looked at the other themes and decided that my current one is what will work best for me (: I also had a lot of fun organizing my widgets, the tag cloud is OFFICIALLY my favorite concept of this class. I … Continue reading

    ? Don’t touch that, it’s HOT!! ?

    by
Ta-Da!! My goodness what an adventure creating my first GIF! I chose to use a clip from Sweet Home Alabama, this movie is one of my all-time favorites. In this scene young Jake is protecting Melanie from touching a hot spot that was just struck by lightning At first, the thought of creating a GIF was very stressful, I researched and downloaded many different types of software but nothing was giving me a good result. After trying for a couple of hours to figure it out I finally decided to try the directions on this page. I found them to be VERY helpful. Step by step everything worked and my … Continue reading

    Creator’s Copyright

    by
Now that’s what I’m talking about!  Creative Commons, the copyright that is easily understandable by the everyday creator just wanting to expand their minds and worlds.  Founded in 2001 and released in late 2002, Creative Commons has been largely supported by the Center for the Public Domain.  The company is not just to protect the rights ... Can you imagine coming up with the best idea that has ever been created in history and someone else get the recognition for it simply because you did not copyright your idea.  I don’t know about anyone else but it would drive me crazy to know that someone else took the glory for my genius ...

Week Two Summary: I’m ready for a nap.

    by
Let me start by saying, I don’t want to type this right now, but it needs to get done…Just let it be known that I’m taking a nap afterwards. Week Two, you have been full of fun activities but TONS of work. It’s not just DS106, it was my other classes, work, and volunteering. BUT I made it through the week and am finally getting EVERYTHING turned in! Let’s start simple with TDC(The Daily Create). I think I missed a couple days because I couldn’t make it to a computer, however I did make at least 3, as was required. (I do however feel like I copped out, because they … Continue reading

    Week Two of Bootcamp: PUNISHED.

    by
Week two, wow. This week was tough. I actually had to pace myself on all of the work that we had to do. Between work, hockey, and a social life (probably could have cut that one out), I finally got the work done on Sunday morning! The daily creates this week were difficult. None of them really struck my fancy. I picked the three that I thought were the coolest, I guess. Spinning Objects, Wearing something as a hat that wasn’t a hat, and The Great Outdoors. I’ve been happy with the visual/photography daily creates so far. I, being a photographer find them fun. Being able to use one of … Continue reading

The wonderful world of Creative Commons. (CC)

    by
‘Creative Commons” is actually a sort of copywriting organization. They work along side copyriting your work so people can’t steal your pictures, music, blog posts, ect. They allow the public to share your work while giving you credit. A creative commons license is not a copyright, but it does the same thing. (maybe even better) Creative Commons allows you to have the freedom to choose what people can do with your work. You can allow people to use it for personal use, but not commercial use or you can allow people to use it for commercial use, and not personal use. (who would do that?) Creative commons is essentially copyright … Continue reading

    The Great Outdoors

    by
    M. in the woods. This is my little brother, Michael. He asked me to take a photo shoot of him for a new Facebook profile picture. This was one of the products. It also showcases the great outdoors during the fall. Beautiful.

    The Creative Commons

    by
What is Creative Commons? As the Creative Commons website states, “Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that enables the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools.” To me, the Creative Commons is the way to get around strict copyright laws when they aren’t exactly necessary. For example, I posted a picture earlier this week from Niagara Falls. Why shouldn’t I let others use this picture? It’s just a random photo I took with my phone. It would be nice to be credited for it, and even better if people didn’t have to ask for permission. Well luckily for them, that is possible! What if they only … Continue reading

    All Rights Reserved

    by
I’ve never known much, or anything really, about Creative Commons (CC) but I started seeing it when using Flickr, YouTube and the like. I always assumed it was just some new or official copyright sign but I found out it is much more then that. I really liked the way Flickr explained it, they had a very easy to follow licensing system which made it so much clearer to me what CC was all about, sharing ideas with others. The keyword here is sharing, not selling.  It is a way to really connect the web into a web of ideas like I talked about earlier in the semester with the Where Good Ideas … Continue reading

    Woman In Black

    by
The Woman in Black, the 2012 version not the 1980′s one, was probably the worst movie I have ever seen. I shouldn’t have expected anything else with the horrible commercials advertising it, though I couldn’t find the video of the one I always saw (the audience reaction one which was basically just short clips from the movie that told you nothing and long scenes of people screaming in a movie theater and interview of them saying how scary it was) though the trailers I could find actually made it seem like a really good and scary movie. The scares were tacky and cheap, mostly going for more of a startle than an … Continue reading

My Take on Creative Commons ?

    by
Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that gives permission to the public to share your work, creative ideas, and knowledge on your own terms. Creative Commons is free and apparently really easy to use. CC licenses let you easily change your copyright terms from the default of “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved.” Upon deciding to be part of creative commons, the work you’ve done becomes readily available to others, allowing them to use the work/research/ideas you’ve already accomplished. For DS106, my personal opinion would be that it doesn’t matter if my work is ‘some-rights-reserved,’ because the assignments are the same for every other person in the class. Also, … Continue reading

    Freedom in Five Photos

    by
In prep for doing next week’s introduction to storytelling for my ds106 class, yesterday’s sequence of events compelled me to try the Tell a Story in Five Frames flickr group, making a story titled “Freed” This are an interesting challenge, it is easy perhaps to illustrate a series of events. The trick to level up is to make the story less literal (which I cannot say I have done here). Like the six word story, this is a great exercise in telling a story within contraints. The story as tweeted (with iPhone autocorrect typos at no charge) @cogdog Flower nectar, and actually a lot of butterflies die at the end of the summer season, especially if it recently laid eggs. — Ma’ayan Plaut (@plautmaayan) September 7, 2012 @doodle_muse will do, up the road out of this grubby town I will look for place to let her go. Meeting Joey Stamper!!

    by
I had the pleasure of meeting the newest member of Anthem Lights this past Thursday. My sisters and I had the best time. It was basically a private concert with no more than 50 people. I had the privilege of being able to stand right by the stage. Seeing the band play live was a dream of mine, and I never in a million years expected to have such an intimate experience. https://twitter.com/LYNDS3YJOY/status/244478015013257217
