    Genre, genre, what’s YOUR genre?

    by
There was genres for everything or at least all the good things in life: books, movies, music, so on and so forth! They exist all around. One of the most popular places? Our very own Youtube! This week had an assignment in which we had to review some other Youtube genre’s created by fellow DS106ers, ...

WikiAddict (exploring a movie and beyooond!)

    by
This was possibly the best part of this week’s assignment just because I’m a total Wikipedia junkie. I know some people are hesitant because any regular joe could go and mess around with a page but if I was reading Lincoln’s wiki page and in the middle of it, it talks about him listening to ...

    Double Trouble

    by
Only doing two daily creates this week? Best week ever!! Well, looking back I just was unmotivated by this week’s daily creates. Picking my favorite gift that I have given or received was pretty hard since I am really bad at picking favorites. The Easter Bunny got me a beach badge for this summer which (continue reading...)

    Week 10 Summary

    by
Look, Listen, Analyze Exploring The Movie Even More Genres of YouTube Pre-Production Daily Creates The vibe I gathered from this week’s assignment was that it was more of a preparatory week, getting acquainted with the basics of video storytelling.  It focused on really looking at a movie, while also delving deeper into specific genres.  None ...

The best thing’s come in three!

    by
Analyze the camera work :  The first part of this assignment was to listen to it with the volume all the way down, paying special attention to camera angles, the film “tone”, and the various camera switchings throughout the clip. Prior to watching this clip, I watched this clip on camera techniques so that I wasn’t completely clueless and ...

    The List Never Ends

    by
While looking at the google doc of all of the different YouTube genre‘s thought of by past students I couldn’t help but laugh at the “Unintentional Hilarity” genre because that is so true. It’s pretty much the modern day America’s Funniest Home Videos always at your access. I find myself constantly getting sent to different (continue reading...)

    Pre-Production

    by
The two assignments that I chose were Return to the Silent Era and Vintage Educational Video. For the Silent Era one, I’m thinking about using the scene from The Hobbit where the dwarves are all arriving.  The example I watched was Remix #4 Frank Vs. The Tranq, which gave me a pretty good sense of how ...

    Genres of YouTube

    by
The genre I picked out was “animals doing human things” cause I came across this about a year ago and it’s too good not to post. So, this is obviously a very “human thing” watching TV.  But the part of this assignment that I found to be useful was recognizing the broad spectrum of genres ...

    Exploring The Movie Even More

    by
I checked out the Any Given Sunday Wikipedia page for any extra info on the production, and it didn’t really have much to offer except that part of it was loosely based on a book, also the NFL wouldn’t allow them to use real team names so they had to make them up.  The one interesting ...

    Exploring The Dark Knight

    by
I did a bit more research on The Dark Knight (2008), the source of the clip in the previous post. Here are some interesting facts about the production of The Dark Knight from IMDb: The rough voice Christian Bale is known for now was not actually the voice that he had originally used in filming. ...

    Generating Genres

    by
This week, I had to find an example video of YouTube genres located on Google Doc that previous students have created. I didn’t really understand a few of the genres listed on the Google Doc, especially “Inappropriate for Church, but only Church.” The video which was posted for it is inappropriate in general–not just “for church.” ...

    Look & Listen

    by
This week, I picked a movie scene and analyzed it’s video editing techniques. I picked Batman interrogating the Joker from The Dark Knight (2008). Without Sound Without sound, the first scene where the lights turn on and Batman appears becomes very slow and not as startling as I remember. I chose this scene because I ...

    The Prequel

    by
There is a lot of set up work involved with creating a good video.  Much has to be edited, added, and put together.  Before you can even think about doing that you need the pieces to make the whole. Play by Play: I chose to use a clip from a …

    The Genres of Youtube

    by
After reviewing the Youtube Genres document, I felt there was a crucial piece of the Youtube puzzle missing. A lot of the genres added were very specific, only pertaining to a small portion of the Youtube video population. Music videos, something I think is one of the core foundations of Youtube, was left off the list. ...

    Rounders Genre

    by
Rounders - 3 bits of interesting information 1) Worm was originally supposed to smoke but avid nonsmoker Edward Norton refused. 2) Matt Damon and Edward Norton played the $10,000 buy-in Texas Hold ‘Em championship event at the 1998 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. During the first of four days, Matt Damon had pocket Kings and was knocked out by former ...

Book Genres and Movie Genres and All the Genres

    by
There are many different genres.  For movies these tend to range from the well know, action, comedy to thriller and drama.  Books have fiction, nonfiction, teen, biography and more.  Youtube also has genres.  I did not think about this until I read through the examples on this page.  I love …

    Automating Song Info to Ladiocast

    by
cc licensed ( BY NC SA ) flickr photo shared by volperic Late night fiddling, don’t ask why– I was doing my photo editing and saw nothing on #ds106 radio, so set out to play somethimg from iTunes. For some reason, Nicecast no longer allows me to select an application as a source (Maybe because I installed Audio Hijack), so I switched by rig to Ladiocast, especially since the ds106 radio status page was not updating at all. Previously, I found I could manually push updates to the metadata via Ladiocast, but this seems manual and tedious. I mused before searching Not quite sure anymore what generates metadata on #ds106radio, NIcecast fails — Alan Levine (@cogdog) March 31, 2013 Searching on “itunes metadata script ladiocast” I then easily found a nifty Applescript for Ladiocast Automation. It’s pretty easy to see what it does; polls itunes for a new song, and ...

Week In Review | In Preparation of Video

    by
Let’s just start at the beginning.  What tools do I even have for video? iPhone.  I think that will basically be what I use to shoot anything. Sound recorder.  I can use this for any foley (HA!) sounds I might make on my own. Windows Movie Maker.  Seems useless unless it’s just a slide show. ...
