    A Fairytale Made Shorter

    by
A cat with boots The ogre was killed with charm A princess marries I decided to write a Haiku on the tale “Puss in Boots” by Charles Perrault. I started by googling popular fairytales and came across the story. I had never read the full story and it was very interesting to read. The story is about the father of three sons who died and left his cat to one of his sons. The other two sons decided to live together, but they refused to let their brother live with them because he only inherited a cat. This was no ordinary cat. The cat could talk and asked for a pair of boots which the son gave her. The cat was sneaky and would trick rabbits by bribing them with food and then would capture them for her owner to eat. She then started gifting the rabbits to the king who was impressed. She then decided to go after the ogre that had haunted and frightened the village for many years. This ogre had the special power of shape shifting into different animals. She tricked the ogre into shifting into a mouse and immediately killed him. Her next plan involved convincing her owner to bathe and while he does this she steals his clothes. She then finds the King’s carriage and tells him someone has stolen her owners clothes. The Kinds sends for new clothes for him which make him much more attractive. The cat scares all of townspeople into saying that the beautiful fields belong to her owner and not the ogre that she killed. The fields impress the king so much that he gives him his daughter, the princess, to marry. The cat lives the rest of her days in the castle, never having to hunt again . I really enjoyed finding out about this story through this assignment (1 star). The story dates back to the 1600s, and its origin was either Italy or France. I had no idea how old this story was. I thought it was a more recent publication in the Shrek movies or TV shows. Like many other tales, it has the meaning of things sometimes being worth more than they seem. Her owner got to become a prince and live in the castle while his brothers had to continue living their normal lives. I also found the story very amusing with its description of the cat and how she was very sneaky which is very true of most cats. I read through the story and tried to sum it up in the short writing of a Haiku. I wanted to be as descriptive as possible with the words, but it was hard due to the syllable restrictions. I wanted the first line to have information on the cat in boots because that has a funny mental image and also states the cat is not just some ordinary cat. I thought in was important to discuss the ogre since his land is what won the King over and convinced him to give his daughter’s hand in marriage to the owner. The third line was the hardest because I wanted to be much more descriptive and tell how she and the cat’s owner married, but I also wanted people to read between the lines on who she married. Until next time, Emily

A Day in the Life of Captain Synapse

    by
Name: Captain Synapse Power: Empathic- Ability to sense and control other’s emotions Mission: To rid the world of negative emotions and promote happiness Every morning, I wake up early in the morning. The alarm goes off at 4 a.m., so I can help those with negative emotions on their way to work. I get rid of all of the, “this is stupid/ I’m stupid”, “I can’t do this”, “I’ll never be capable” thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts. I wake up and eat a nutritious breakfast (reading minds burns a lot of calories and is exhausting) and then soon after that my iEmotion phone alerts me of those who are having negative emotions and leads me to them. I move from building to building, street to street to help those in need. I am constantly at war with my enemy Doctor Negativity who works to combat the positive thoughts I create and wreck havoc on the world through negativity. By the end of day, I am back with my family who have no idea what I do during the day. The next day it all starts again.   Doctor Negativity’s mind is impossible to alter. Luckily, I have recently discovered that he has a weakness for puppies. Doctor Negativity’s powers fail when he is in the presence of a cute puppy, so I have devised a plan to make sure he is always in the presence of a puppy. I visit headquarters to alert them of the plan and to pick up Fluffy my new partner. This puppy is no ordinary puppy, it is a super pup. We inform Fluffy of his mission, which is to have Doctor Negativity fall in love with him and to never leave Doctor Negativity’s side. The plan works perfectly and after a few days there is no more negativity in the world and Doctor Negativity is spending his days playing with Fluffy, and he has even taken up a new pastime of helping save the animals of the world. My job may be much easier now, but I will always be on watch and will ensure the spread of positive emotions around the world! I started this assignment by using the Superhero name generator. I filled out the information and then got my name. I read the description of my powers and decided that my superhero should promote positivity. As I started describing the day, I came up with the idea of having a nemesis. I thought it would fun to have a “cure” for his negativity and realized that no one can resist puppies. I loved thinking about and creating a superhero that could change negative emotions. I thought it was nice to have a website pick my name for me because it allowed me to think outside of the box more than if I had just come up with a name. This story was fun to think of and also helped ease me into creating a character. Until next time, Emily

    Tea Time Everyday

    by
I often think about where I would live if I could live anywhere in the world. I saw this assignment (3 stars) and knew the answer pretty much immediately. I would love to live in London or really anywhere in England. I think I would like to live there anytime after World War Two maybe the 1990s or early 2000s. I visited there two years ago and fell in love with the country. The weather is not the best, but London has so much history and has so much to do. It is also very nice that they also speak English, so I would not have to learn a new language. I would definitely want to live in one of the palaces like Kensington or even Buckingham. I know it sounds cheesy to say one of the palaces, but it would be so amazing to live somewhere with so much history and where so many world leaders have visited/lived. Living in Europe is also nice because they have so many trains and ways to visit other countries. It would nice to be so close to other countries like France and Spain so easily! I would want to live there with all my family and friends that way I was not lonely. I really enjoyed going back through my memories and pictures of my trip to England for this assignment. It also let me live my dream of living in London. Until next time, Emily

    by
Released on April 20, 2018 on the PlayStation 4, God of War is a sequel to one of the most famous PlayStation exclusive franchises, a game aiming to reboot the former trilogy for the new generation of consoles. In my opinion, any good sequel draws from the success of its previous entries, utilizing the good … Continue reading God of War Review: A Tale of Norse Mythology
